Some Site Work and Studio

 There is a bit of site work going on at the house.  We are getting crushed stone (ledge) put around the perimeter of the house to deal with the drip line coming off the roof and keeping the siding clean.  There has been some grading and "Mount Drewsville", as I have named just one of the giant mounds of top soil that has grown its own ecosystem, is coming down!

Some Ikea shelving put together.  This will serve as room divider and lots of storage.

Just what I need is another painting project but a friend was getting rid of this secretary and it will work perfect as a desk for my area outside the pantry.  This will get an update with paint.

Before pics.  The mullions on the glass was deteriorating so I am going to remove them.  I prefer the plain glass anyway.

Lots of cubbies and drawers.  Should be a fun project.  I am trying a new type of paint called Heirloom Traditions which has a durable finish built in.

I am creating this blog as a way to record the building of our First Day Cottage in Walpole, NH.  We purchased 7.2 acres of open meadow one mile outside of the beautiful village of Walpole, NH.  We have lived in an old 1849 house on the town common for the past 20 years and wanted to "downsize" to a one level more energy efficient home.  I knew a local architect named David Howard designed these owner built cottages and was able to visit one that was built for his daughter.  I really liked the tall ceilings, exposed beams and rustic quality of the cottages.  Something totally different than what we had for 20 years.  Of course we are not building it ourselves.  We might have attempted this kind of thing 35 years ago but not an option these days. Front Entry

 Did a bit more work finishing up the display boxes.  Filled the nail holes and did the caulking and some of the priming.  The weather has not cooperated this week though with an April snowstorm.  My display for spring includes birds, nests and other bird related items that I have made.  These displays are fun to do and have attracted some attention.  I think the UPS driver is intrigued when he delivers the packages.   I finally was able to unpack and display my collection of vintage state plates.  This large wall in the foyer is perfect for them.  Unfortunately as I hammered in the last of them a few fell off and broke!  Now I will be looking for replacements along with the ones I have been missing to complete the whole USA. On the Line

I am passionate about clotheslines.  I love everything about them and am a dedicated hanger outer through all seasons.  I can't get enough of that fresh off the clothesline smell.  So being without my clothesline for two whole years has been painful.  Not life or death but I really missed it!  It is where I breath deep and settle my mind and count my blessings.  I have had some nice clotheslines in my other homes but this one is going to be my favorite I think.  The same guys who did the fence made this for us and it is a beauty!  Sturdy and classy and stunning to look at.  I will eventually stain it a color when the wood has weathered enough but right now I am basking in its beauty!  Life is good. Going to have to tighten up those lines once the posts settle in a bit.  I have placed this clothesline steps away from our back porch so I can have access even through the snow.
