Footings Poured and it's All About the Pole
Starting to see some real progress on the foundation work. The footings have been poured and the walls should be poured next week. They will stick way up high and then be back filled and the soil will be graded away from the house. Because there is so much grade the architect changed the size of the side basement windows so we wouldn't have so much cement exposure which is good. They put foam on the outside of the cement and there is supposed to be some sort of stucco applied to that they assure me so you don't see foam along your foundation!
It's exciting to see the footprint clearly now. Thomas says it's looks like three train cars hitched together.

We are also trying to untangle the mystery of how to get electricity run to our new place. Many people have driven out and checked out the pole situation on Old Drewsville Road including the electrician, electrical engineers from the Liberty Utility Co. and a site person from Consolidated Communication (aka telephone company). Turns out Consolidated owns the poles and we cannot use the pole that we wanted which is on our side of the street because it is considered a "junction pole". So we can either place a new pole on our side or use the one up the street but that is on the other side which would mean having the town dig up the road if we want to run it underground (which we do).
Consolidated will not charge you for the pole if you purchase telephone service for one year ($40 per month). I guess that is how they get people to still sign up for land lines! So to our kid's dismay we will still have a land line which they say is ridiculous but we get our pole. We might get it in a month (if we are lucky) and then still have to deal with Liberty to actually run the wires. They are not easy to reach and deal with at all. Small steps every day.
